Over the last couple of weeks we’ve heard a lot of news about two of the three DC Universe television properties, namely “The Flash” and “Gotham.” Yet, we’ve heard very little about NBC’s “Constantine” pilot. Well that changed suddenly, because NBC has announced that they have found the actor who will portray John Constantine. “Welsh actor Matt Ryan (Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior) is finalizing a deal to play the lead in NBC’s drama pilot Constantine, from Warner Bros TV.” I know nothing about this actor, but he is from the UK so that’s a step in the right direction. I know this actor isn’t blonde, but that’s something a good hair dye can fix.
For the show, the character is described as follows; ” a working-class Londoner with deadpan humor who is a mysterious con man and occult detective haunted by the recent loss of a young girl’s soul. No stranger to the dark underworld that exists parallel to our own, Constantine has been studying the dark arts since he was a teenager. He’s taught himself spells, rituals, curses and conjuring, but the one person he most wishes to see — his mother, who died giving birth to him — remains out of reach, at least so far. When Liv, the daughter of a late friend, is targeted by demons, Constantine steps in to save her and the two form an alliance.” I’ve loved David Goyer’s work on DC Universe properties. With him producing and Daniel Cerone (Dexter) writing, along with Neill Marshall (Game of Thrones) directing, I have hopes that this will be good.
