Justice League #3 CoverEver since the announcement of “Batman Vs Superman” at San Diego Comic Con, fans have speculated that the next logical step in progression for the DC Universe on film would be Justice League.  Speculation and rumors intensified, when the release date of the “Man of Steel” followup was delayed a full 10 months.  Speculation had it that the delay was due to the fact, that the film that paired The Dark Knight and The Man of Steel, would end in such a way that lead directly into “Justice League.” Some believed that both Batman Vs Superman & Justice League would film back to back. Well, speculate and wonder no more my fellow DC Comics loving brethren, our days of suffering through nothing but movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe are almost at an end. Warner Brothers confirmed that “Like “Man of Steel” and its follow-up, which starts production next month, “Justice League” will be directed by Zack Snyder. Henry Cavill is expected to return as Superman, along with Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot, who play Batman and Wonder Woman, respectively, in 2016’s “Man of Steel” sequel tentatively titled “Batman vs. Superman.”  Furthermore, “It will be a further expansion of this universe,” said Mr. Silverman. “’Superman vs Batman’ will lead into ‘Justice League.” According to The Wallstreet Journal report, a script is currently in development.  The Hollywood Reporter chimed in saying, “A release date has not been set, but sources say it could bow in 2017, a year after Superman vs. Batman, which is set to hit theaters May 6, 2016. The movies will be shot back-to-back.”  All I can say regarding this news is… FINALLY! I am thrilled that Zack Snyder is directing, in part because he has been heavily involved in shaping this  DC Cinematic Universe from the get go with “Man of Steel.” He also is a master in terms of creating great visual spectacles.  All of his films, whatever you think of their quality, are visually stunning.  Also, “300” and “Watchmen” are prime examples that he can handle ensemble films.  They are also two of the most faithful translations of a comic book to film. The journey to 2016 just got all the more exciting.
